Temporary Library Assistants (Eight Available Positions)

Haverford College seeks to hire eight (8), full-time, non-exempt Temporary Library Assistants. Assistants, as part of a team, will be integrating returned materials, deaccessioning materials that are being removed from the collection, tagging materials for a new check-out and inventory system, re-boxing and measuring the collection.
Majority Primary Function:
Assistants will learn and execute work processes that comprise the work of a team. Work processes include:?
??? ?Grabbing boxes from the staging area; returning completed boxes to staging area?
??? ?Using lists to pull books from boxes and book carts
??? ?Carrying boxes?
??? ?Scanning book barcodes into a database and verifying inputs
??? ?Physically de-accession the book
??? ?Moving deaccessioned books to bins for resale/recycle?
??? ?Applying tags to books and linking the tag to the barcode through software?
??? ?Repacking books in boxes?
??? ?Measuring the length of the books and entering that information into a database.?
Other Essential Responsibilities:
Must be able to start on May 21, 2018.?The work associated with this position will continue into mid-October,?2018.
Highly reliable & punctual?
Must have reliable transportation to the site located in West Conshohocken (no convenient public transportation available)?
Ability to learn and apply procedures consistently and accurately?
Attention to detail (especially in following routine processes)?
Ability to work well with a supervisor, individually, and as a team player?
Effective oral communication skills?
Ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds?
Basic computer literacy?

Education, Training, & Experience:
High school diploma required
Basic math skills; understand whole numbers vs. decimals and measurement required
Must have experience following routine processes
Some knowledge of working with databases and computer applications

Pushing (to draw an object toward oneself to move or change its direction): three to six hours
Carrying (to hold objects while moving entire body): three to six hours
Reaching or working above shoulder (to extend arms upward or outward away from body): three to six hours
Walking (to move entire body in erect position): Up to three hours
Standing (to maintain body in erect posture in stationary position): three to six hours
Sitting (to rest weight on buttocks and back of thighs with legs bent at knees): three to six hours
Crouching/Stooping (to bend upper body forward while fully flexing knees): Up to three hours
Kneeling (to maintain upper body in erect position while resting knees on ground): Never
Climbing (to ascend or descent heights using ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, inclined surfaces): Never
Twisting (to rotate upper body while feet remain stationary): Up to three hours
Driving (operating a motor vehicle, crane, tractor, forklift, etc.): Never
Exposure Limitation (i.e., cold water, dust, gas, fumes, extreme temperatures): six to eight hours

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
